Tamara Denise Carter was a friendly 17-year-old senior at Moore High School in Moore, Oklahoma. She played the bells in the school band, loved rodeo, rock concerts and driving around with friends in her '69 Mustang. Her life was stolen as the result of a kidnapping and murder in 1982.
On Saturday March 6, 1982, Tammy disappeared from her part-time job at Sharp's Cleaners in Moore. Her partially clothed body was found the next day floating in a river a few miles southeast of town. She had been beaten and stabbed to death with a screwdriver.
Three men went to trial charged with her murder. Two were found guilty. One was acquitted of her kidnapping and killing. The Oklahoma Court of Criminal Appeals later reversed the murder conviction of one of the men due to inadmissible evidence. One man still remains in an Oklahoma prison.
